Game Rules

A Baccarat table has seven to 14 seats for players and a dealer’s area. It is played with eight 52-card packs that are shuffled and dealt by the croupier (dealer) from a shoe, which releases cards one at a time face down.

The cards are numbered from 2 to 9, and have their face value, with the exception of tens and picture cards that have zero points. When the hand reaches nine or double digits, the first digit is dropped or subtracted to give an adjusted total.

Unlike blackjack, where the’real odds’ of any hand fluctuate, baccarat uses a ‘one-sided’ betting strategy. This means that a player bets on ‘one side’ of the table – either the Player Bet or Banker’s Bet – and the house advantage will change throughout the game, depending on which side is ‘best’.

In baccarat, the player or banker must have a higher hand than the dealer’s hand to win. If a player is unable to beat the dealer, they may choose to stand. If they do, the player is paid even money on their bet, and the dealer pays 8-to-1 if the player has a tie.

The croupier or dealer draws two cards from the dealing shoe to the Player and Bank hands, and then places them on the corresponding betting areas. The dealer then collects the bets and pays them out as per the payout table.

There are five types of bets in a baccarat game: The Player Bet, the Banker’s Bet, the Tie Bet, the Super Six Bet and the Pair Bet. The winning hand is the hand with the closest total to 9.

Card Ranking: In a baccarat game, cards numbered from 1 to 9 have their face value, and the ace has a single point. Cards numbered from 10 to 19 have their point value, and picture cards and tens have no points at all.

Adding up Points: When a hand reaches nine or double digits, it’s time to drop the first digit of the total and subtract the number 10 to get an adjusted hand.

In some versions of baccarat, the second digit of the total can be dropped to give a lower value. The lowest numbered card is worth one point, while the highest ranked card is worth a maximum of five points.
